I’ve been mentioning over the last few weeks about the Game On Health Challenge that I’m currently participating in. It is my fourth round and I feel amazing! My meal plan of choice is calorie counting, so eating healthy is of key importance. Greek yogurt has been a staple item for breakfast and snacks. I’ve even been able to sneak it in to lunch here and there (with my Healthy Cashew Chicken Salad Lettuce Wraps). When I learned of the DOLE Fruit In Jars fruit & Greek yogurt pairings I knew it would fit perfectly within my food and calorie goals.
Typically I try to keep my breakfast around 350-400 calories. I plan for a mid-morning and a mid-afternoon snack that I like to keep less than 200 calories each. The beauty of this pairing is that totals just under 200 calories! It’s 190 calories of deliciousness that is not only just tasty but made with ingredients I can feel good about. So if I want it for breakfast, paired with a slice of whole wheat toast and a couple of scrambled eggs I’ve got a complete meal. Or, for my mid-morning or afternoon pick-me-up the DOLE Fruit In Jars fruit & Greek yogurt pairing is exactly what I need all by itself!
I’m a huge peach fan, but generally I only go for them fresh in the summertime. They can be a bit of a pain to peel and if they are too ripe, they can be extremely messy. The best part about DOLE Fruit in Jars is the convenience! There’s no cutting, peeling or mess. Simply crack open the resalable lid, scoop out the necessary amount of fruit (only 80 calories for 1/2 cup = approx. 7-8 peach slices) and taste the goodness of all-natural, ready-to-eat fruit that was picked and packed at the peak of ripeness!
I’m so excited for this easy way to help maintain my healthy habits not only during the health challenge, but long term throughout the summer and beyond. Each jar contains five full servings of fruit and are packed in nutritious 100% Fruit Juice (which is another one of those items of importance to me). No high fructose corn syrup: YAY! I’ve learned especially over the last few weeks of my challenge that preparation is KEY. It’s important to have a plan and this DOLE Fruit In Jars fruit & Greek yogurt pairing is the perfect plan! Check out a few tips I’ve got for you on how to have a successful healthy week:
5 Days of Food and Fitness Tips & Ideas:
- Monday: Meal Preparation – carve out a small chunk of your morning or afternoon to prepare all of your meals for the week. Grocery shop the weekend before to make sure your fridge and pantry are stocked with healthy choices. Try to use fresh ingredients when possible and avoid processed foods wherever you can. If you don’t have time to prep the main meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at least have your healthy snacks ready to grab-n-go!
- Tuesday: Enjoy the Outdoors – take your workout outside! With the warm weather it’s easy to enjoy a walk around the neighborhood or a jog around the park. The fresh air will do you some good but the vitamin D will help you even more. Plan for a minimum of 15 minutes, but if you’ve got more time: use it!
- Wednesday: Spruce up Your Fruit – Working out is a great way to stay fit but it is also important to maintain a healthy diet. Next time you’re at the grocery store, pick up DOLE Fruit in Jars. Each container provides 5 delicious servings of all natural, fresh fruit. While at the store, grab a container of your favorite Greek yogurt and try a pairing to spruce up your fruit!
- Thursday: Find a Friend – it’s easier to get your body moving when you’ve got someone keeping you accountable. Call up a friend and invite them to go on a hike with you or attend an exercise class together. Not only will having them there help you reach your goals, but it’s always more fun to workout with a buddy!
- Friday: Treat Yourself – you’ve made it through the week! Make plans with friends or family to enjoy an activity together. It doesn’t have to be centered around unhealthy food. You can go to your local farmers market and grab some fresh local produce then make a healthy meal together! You’ll be supporting local and continuing to keep your healthy lifestyle a priority!
