Caramel Apple Fondue // TriedandTastyHave you ever had fondue? I am a fondue lover. It goes back many, many years and I loved it from the very first bite. Both sweet and savory. My favorite chocolate is probably my Light and Dark Fondue. Oh boy is it heavenly. But my Cheesecake Fondue, S’Mores Fondue, and Flaming Turtle Fondue are all excellent as well. I need to get a good cheese recipe to share with you, but I usually just cheat and use the pre-made bags of the fondue cheese. It’s delicious and a little cheaper than buying the exotic cheeses that you typically need.  Anyway.. back to why we are here. I posted the most yummy-amazing-delicious Basic Homemade Caramel recipe the other day and here’s a great way to use it! FONDUE!

The idea came to me when my caramel apple adventure #failed. No matter what I did the caramel was bound and determined NOT to stay on the apple. I made sure it was cooled enough, I made sure the wax was removed from the apple (they were organic anyway and didn’t have wax), tried to refrigerate them and even tried to freeze them. Nothing worked. So. I decided this was the next best thing.

This the the perfect idea for a fall party! It is a tasty, darling, and inter-active activity. You can have as many or as few toppings as you like. It is extremely adaptable to fit any staste bud. All you will need to do is round up your favorite dippers.  I used some little ceramic dishes that came with one of my fondue pots. They are perfect for any little treat you want to add in them.  Of course, if you don’t have that you can just use little bowls.

Here are the toppings that I settled on: white chocolate, sprinkles, jimmies, chopped peanuts, mini chocolate chips, & M&M’s (although, those need to be coarsely chopped as well, there is no way that the whole M&M can stick to the caramel). You can use any type of nuts, some melted chocolate, or cinnamon sugar to name a few extra ideas. I basically just thought of the caramel apples they sell at my fav shop and determined what they use on my fav dipped apples.

You may or may not already know this, but in case you don’t, I find this tip very helpful! If you drizzle your chopped apples with fresh squeezed lemon (or lime I suppose) juice, it will prevent your apples from turning brown! You can also soak them in a lemon-lime soda (like Sprite) and it will do the same thing. I prefer not to drink soda and don’t buy it, so the lemons are perfect for me! It will keep your apples looking freshly cut for several hours. So you can have your apples out for the whole party and they will look appetizing the entire time. Bonus!

By the way, isn’t my fondue mug on of the most adorable things you’ve ever seen??? I LOVE it! It was a gift from one of my best friends several years ago. Perfect for a romantic night of sweet fondue for two. For a crowd, you’d want to obviously use something a little bigger. I’ve got several other fondue pots but none of them are electric – that’s next on my list! Now you’ve got the perfect idea for your next fall party. Enjoy!

    What fun! I love fondue but we don’t have a fondue pot or anything. I’m going to have to get that mug! Also, I’ve found the caramel has to be REALLY thick for caramel apples, but that’s just after having my first success this week :)

    I dont know what I did different than you, but when I made the sauce it came out too hard. I cooked it to 250, but I should have stopped at 220-230. It still tastes great, like a Worthers buttery candy. The tip about the Sprite on apples worked splendidly though! I gave you a link back on my blog posting coming on this coming Monday.
