I love me some Chinese food. I recently went out and got some for lunch one day last week. Sesame chicken, mmm.. it was great! So tonight I decided to make some at home in hopes to bring the “restaurant” to us. I searched a few websites and stumbled upon this recipe on allrecipes. It was rated 4.5 stars and every review said the recipe was awesome. So I tried it, and yes it was awesome!
Perfect Sesame Chicken
If you love ordering Sesame Chicken at your favorite Chinese restaurant, with this recipe you won't have to! You can now have the most delicious sesame chicken at home.
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp. corn starch
- 1/4 tsp. baking soda
- 1/4 tsp. baking powder
- 2 tbsp. soy sauce
- 2 tbsp. water
- 1 tsp. vegetable oil
- 1 dash sesame oil
- 1 lb. skinless boneless chicken breast, cubed
- 1 c. chicken broth
- 1 c. white sugar
- 2 tbsp. distilled white vinegar
- 2 tbsp. dark soy sauce
- 2 tbsp. sesame oil
- 1 tsp. chile paste I didn't use this
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1/4 c cornstarch
- 1/2 c. water
- 2 tbsp. toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
-
Sift flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and baking powder into a bowl. Pour in soy sauce, water, vegetable oil, and a dash of sesame oil; stir until smooth. Stir in chicken until coated with batter, then cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes.
-
Meanwhile, bring chicken, broth, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, chile paste, and garlic to a boil in a saucepan, over high heat. Dissolve 1/4 c. cornstarch into 1/2 c. water, and stir into boiling sauce. Simmer until the sauce thickens and turns clear, about 2 minutes. Reduce heat to low, and keep sauce warm.
-
Heat 1 qt. oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan. Drop in the batter chicken pieces, a few at a time, and fry until they turn golden brown and float to the top of the oil, 3-4 minutes. Drain on a paper towel lined plate.
-
To serve, place the fried chicken pieces onto a serving platter, and pour the hot sauce over top. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds to garnish.

Second time I made this for my family and it was a huge hit! I used honey and brown sugar instead of white sugar and cut out the chili paste.
