At last! Grilling season is here at last! The sound of lawnmowers and the smell of juicy sizzling meat is in the air. If you’re looking for some grilling information and inspiration, you’ve come to the right place!
I’m here to walk you through the process of crafting mouth watering steak tacos from start to finish, including selecting & grilling the steak and putting the tacos together with all the right fixings.
What’s the best kind of steak for tacos?
I used Certified Angus Beef ® brand Boneless Strip Steak for these tacos and after one bite I knew it was the right choice. This cut of meat has just the right amount of marbling, it’s wonderfully tender after just ten minutes on the grill, and it slices like a dream. Skirt steak, flank steak, or sirloin steak would be great choices as well.
It’s no secret that I’m a tried and true fan of the Certified Angus Beef ® brand. They take beef SERIOUSLY and have a very high bar to meet for any piece of meat which bears their logo. Some brands have a vague description of what quality means to them, but the Certified Angus Beef ® brand embraces very objective standards – 10 to be exact – to ensure that their beef is truly of the highest quality.
These standards involve things like marbling & maturity, sizing, appearance, and tenderness. I would highly recommend visiting the ‘10 SPECIFICATIONS FOR QUALITY‘ on the Certified Angus Beef ® brand website if you’d like to learn specifics about what sets the beef apart.
Another helpful page on the website is the ‘WHERE TO BUY‘ tool, which will help you find out where to buy the finest beef in your area.
Finally, I also recommend checking out the Steakholder Rewards™ program. Once you register, you’ll be able to earn points for purchasing Certified Angus Beef ® brand meat (when you scan your receipt) and by inviting friends to join along. Points can be redeemed for fantastic kitchen gear!
What are key things to know for grilling up the perfect steak?
Start with a hot grill.
This will help to sear the steak which helps to seal in juices and flavor.
Use tongs to turn the meat. No forks allowed!
Using tongs will allow you to turn the meat over without piercing it like a fork would. When you pierce the meat, juices escape. We want to keep those flavorful juices inside the meat!
Use a meat thermometer.
Don’t guess! Use a meat thermometer to determine exactly when to remove your steak from the grill. Overcooking your meat by even a few degrees can have a major impact on the flavor and texture.
