In my quest to eliminate white flour in my cooking I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well you can swap whole wheat flour for white flour. My favorite pizza dough recipe is one that I got from my friend many, many years ago. The moment she shared her Homemade Pizza Dough recipe with me I thought I’d never need another recipe again. Since then I’ve changed my ways. I decided to use the same recipe and just swap out the flours and cross my fingers the results would be equally as delicious.
It worked beautifully! I love that I can still enjoy my favorite dishes and sub out some of the unhealthy ingredients for healthy ingredients and have a fantastic meal. Pizza is one of my favorite ‘cheat’ meals and it’s nice that I can indulge without feeling guilty. As great as this dough recipe is, my Whole Wheat Pizza Crust is fantastic as well. Top it with my Pizza Sauce or Spaghetti Tomato Pizza Sauce and you will fall in love at first bite. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!
Whole Wheat Pizza Dough
Whole Wheat Pizza Dough is a delicious, healthy alternative to traditional white flour pizza dough.,,
Ingredients
Crust
- 2 1/2 - 3 c. whole wheat flour
- 3 tbsp. sugar
- 1 tsp. yeast
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/4 c. warm water
Sauce/Suggested Toppings
- 1 can Prego pizza sauce or any other canned pizza sauce
- 1 bag shredded mozzarella cheese
- Sliced Ham
- Pineapple Chunks
Instructions

Preheat oven to 425 F.

Mix together dry ingredients. Slowly add water until dough is a nice texture. Knead dough if you wish. Add a tbsp of vegetable oil to kneading process to make easier.

Set aside to rest/rise while preparing other toppings and sauce.

Roll out dough onto greased pizza or cookie sheet (it will be more like a kneading process, work dough to the corners of the cookie sheet).

Top with sauce, cheese and favorite toppings. Bake for 15-20 minutes. Watch carefully to be sure pizza doesn't burn. Cool for a few minutes.
