It’s MAY!! Do you know what that means? Grilling season is upon is! Next week I am SO excited for a fun series that I’ve teamed up with One Sweet Appetite for. I love Jesseca, and if you aren’t familiar with her site: get familiar with it. She’s just as amazing as a person as her site is wonderful. Together we are going to be bringing you the tastiest hamburgers to get you started this grilling season. My mouth is already watering and we can’t wait to share! But what’s a hamburger without the bun? I mean, yes you can lettuce wrap your burger. For the most part people use a bun. I’m here to give you a quick and easy way to make homemade buns for those moments that you either run out of the store bought ones or just want something with a homemade touch.
If you’ve been around here for a minute you know of my love for Rhodes rolls. You can do ANYTHING with them. You can even make hamburger buns! Not like buns are rocket science, it’s nice to be reminded ‘oh yeah, I CAN do that!’. I know I run across those types of recipes all the time. I’m here to bring you step-by-step instructions on the easiest way to make a homemade hamburger bun. All you need is one ingredient: Rhodes rolls.
Thaw as many rolls as you will need. If it’s just for the family, thaw a handful of them. If it’s for a bbq or get together thaw a dozen or two of them. You will want them thawed, yet still cold. If you raise them too much you will not get the result that you are looking for.
I went to a cooking class a few weeks ago and learned this nifty trick. You take a second cookie sheet and squish the life out of your rolls. Ha!
Just flatten those little babies. It helps to spray the bottom of your cookie sheet with cooking spray so they don’t stick.
You should end up with a flattened disk like so. Immediately put them in to your preheated oven. You don’t want them to rise again.
Bake for 10-12 minutes. Towards the end of the baking process I sprayed the tops with cooking spray to make them slightly shiny. You don’t have to. You can brush with egg whites or melted butter or just leave well enough alone.
The bottoms will be a beautiful golden brown. Let cool after you’ve removed from the oven and slice in half using a bread knife. Make your favorite burgers and you are good to go. Just that easy! The hardest part is remembering to pull your frozen rolls from the freezer in time to have these ready for dinner.

OH MY GOSH! You have SAVED dinner! LoL My son wanted hamburgers for dinner, unfortunately, I didn’t have any buns,… BUT! I do have a bag of frozen rhodes in my freezer! WOO!
THANK YOU!
So, do you not have to allow the buns to rise at all? Also, can you bake them halfway and then freeze for Brown and Serve Buns?
Why have I NEVER tried this???? I still have one burger to make and will be using this method for sure!
Yvonne
Perfect – it’s almost too easy!
