Sloppy Joes are a delicious sandwich great for any weeknight or weekend, perfect for large gatherings. The Pioneer Woman's Sloppy Joes are just as fantastic as you can imagine.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 2-½ lbs ground beef or turkey
  • ½ large onion diced
  • 1 large green bell pepper diced
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 1-½ c. ketchup
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. dry mustard
  • ½ tsp. red pepper flakes
  • Worcestershire sauce to taste
  • 2 tbsp. tomato paste optional
  • Salt to taste
  • Ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Add butter to a large skillet or dutch oven over medium high heat. Add ground beef and cook until brown. Drain most of the fat and discard. 

  2.  Add onions, green pepper, and garlic. Cook for a few minutes, or until vegetables begin to get soft. 

  3. Add ketchup, brown sugar, chili pepper, dry mustard, and water. Stir to combine and simmer for 15 minutes, adding salt and pepper to taste.

  4. Add tomato paste, Worcestershire. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
