I can’t decorate a fondant cake without buttercream frosting right?! I got this straight from the Wilton website and it turned out fabulous. Seriously, I haven’t ever made a better frosting – it’s delicious AND perfect for cake decorating. If I could have I would have jumped right into the Kitchen Aid and swam in the ocean of icing! Well, I guess if anyone would know how it’s done, Wilton would ;)
Wilton Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients
- 1/2 c. solid vegetable shortening
- 1/2 c. 1 stick butter or margarine, softened
- 1 tsp clear vanilla extract
- 4 c. sifted confectioner's sugar
- 2 tbsp. milk
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, cream shortening and butter with electric mixer. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often.
-
When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy.
-
Keep bowl covered with damp cloth until ready to use. For best results, keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not in use.
-
Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored 2 weeks. Re-whip before using.
