It's fresh, it's cheaper than store bought, and it's amazing to cook with! | Tried and TastyI’ve been making my own whole wheat flour for a couple of years now using my Blendtec Classic Blender and I figured it’s about time I shared with you just how easy it is to make! I’ve used it in many, many recipes including my Healthy Chocolate Zucchini Muffins, 100% Whole Wheat Waffles, 100% Whole Wheat Pancakes, and Whole Wheat Banana Bread to name a few. It’s SO easy, and when you buy your wheat berries in bulk it’s so affordable!

When I got my new Blendtec Designer 625 Blender I was most excited to use it for flour making. The high powered motor blended the wheat berries like butter. So smooth. So effortless. SO easy! You must check out my post over on the Blendtec blog for my Whole Wheat Apple Cinnamon Waffles. They are DIVINE! Made with fresh whole wheat flour, they would be the perfect way to begin your day before you head out to work, or on the weekends before the hustle and bustle takes over.

    “It’s cheaper than store bought!”

Wal-Mart has five pound bags of whole wheat flour for $1.45. That’s 30 cents a pound.
The cheapest 5-pound bag of soft white wheat berries from Amazon is 13.95, or 2.79 per pound. Before shipping.

I was just checking on that too. I don’t see the ‘cheaper than store bought’ – The difference must be the fact that this is 100% wheat flour. Organic. And who knows what. I wouldn’t advertise it as ‘cheaper than store bought though’.

Correction to my post. I haven’t seen the Walmart 5 lb for $1.45. However, I see a brand for 6.1c per oz. — the Organic Soft Wheat Berries she has advertised here is .15 to .29 cents per oz. So yes, it is cheaper than store bought (at least less than King Arthur’s 5 lbs bag at Walmart).

But your in refined at Walmart vs not on Amazon the berries weigh more and you will get more from it the exact ratio depends on how you grind it down! What does 5 lbs of wheat berries give you verses it already ground down

Where do you buy your wheat berries and I’m interested in whole wheat this is new to me so I’m inquiring and do you have any suggestions on mixtures for breads

Hi Clarissa, that’s a good question! I typically purchase my wheat berries from the bulk foods section at my local grocery store or health food store. I know that Amazon sells wheat berries as well.
