How To Substitute Frozen Blueberries // Tried and Tasty

It’s rare that we have fresh blueberries on hand. Mostly because they are just so darn expensive. On the other hand, we ALWAYS have frozen blueberries in our freezer. So when I went to make a few recipes last weekend that called for fresh blueberries I was in a little bit of a predicament. I didn’t want to run to the store and the last time I tried to bake with frozen blueberries when the recipe had called for fresh it was a disaster! So I got to thinking. Maybe there’s a simple way to substitute frozen blueberries for fresh ones? I was in luck – there is! Best part about it? It is CRAZY simple!

You saved the day. I was really hungry for blueberry cheesecake bars, and the recipe called for fresh blueberries. Of course, I only had frozen and was not sure this would work. It did!!!

Did it and it worked perfectly. Remember when you started baking and everything ticked you off, cause u didn’t leave enough time to pull this off? That is probably where that negative comment came from.

Hey you saved the day! I made a blueberry cake today, and used frozen blueberries. Just for the heck of it, before folding in those freezing cold berries, which last time made my batter too thick and hard to stir, I decided to google how to substitute frozen blueberries for fresh ones. You made it so easy! Thank you so, so much.
Gotta make a note of this trick so I don’t forget it. Awesome kitchen tip.

No need for harsh words — we’re baking! Just lay them out on the towel and pat dry. I usually don’t even do this. I just add the frozen blueberries and if the batter seems gloppy, I add more flour. I am going to try this though because my recipe is half almond flour, so I don’t want to mess around with any extra moisture.

Question: would this work for pie? I live in Canada and fresh blueberries are outrageously expensive and hard to get.
