Homemade Nut Butter // Tried and Tasty

Homemade Nut Butter // Nut butter is so easy to make, and oh so delicious! Nothing better than fresh honey roasted peanut butter or cashew butter to slap on an apple slice to make your day! | Tried and Tasty I made some healthy raw cashew and caramel bars this summer that have forever changed my life. First of all, have you ever heard of ‘raw’ desserts? Well they are totally a thing and I’m totally head over heals in love with This Rawsome Vegan Life for making healthy guilt-free desserts taste absolutely sinful. It was then that I discovered something wonderful: cashew butter. Have you ever had cashew butter? I certainly hadn’t, and if you would have asked me at first taste – I would have told you I’d died and gone to heaven. Ohmaword! I’m telling you. I love peanut butter something fierce, but cashew butter came in like a wrecking ball and just about stole first place in the nut butter category.

The hubs and I have been going through fresh apples and homemade nut butter like it’s going out of style! Don’t even get me started on the crazy obsession Steve now has with this healthy caramel we’ve discovered. I can hardly break the two of them apart. We’ve probably made it close to two dozen times JUST since discovering it this summer. You can find it in my Caramel Apple Oatmeal or Caramel Apple French Toast (but beware, it’s finicky!!!!). So anyway, as I was thinking of my lineup of healthy homemade gifts, I knew for sure a mini nut butter assortment was a definite. Reason number 45,365 that we love our Blendtec (and ESPECIALLY Twister Jar!) is just how simple these nut butters are to make! Of course, if you don’t have a Blendtec, they can easily be made in any other blender or food processor.

Ingredients

Honey Roasted Peanut Butter

  • 1 c. honey roasted peanuts

Almond Butter

  • 1 c. almonds

Cashew Butter

  • 1 c. cashews

Instructions

  1. If using a blender, add nuts (separately, not together) and blend until smooth. If using a food processor, add nuts to the bowl of your food processor and process for a very long time, until nice and smooth. Intermittently, scrape the sides (fairly often). The nuts will turn into a very thick and crumbly paste before eventually starting to release their oils and turn into nut butter.
  2. Be patient and resist the urge to add any form of liquid. Just keep going, it will eventually happen. From beginning to end, this might take a good 25 minutes of active processing, so it is a good idea to give your food processor a few minutes break from time to time.

Recipe Notes

Serving Size is 1 tsp. Store nut butter in glass Mason jars or other air-tight containers.

I am in S.E. Alabama, could I substitute pecans? It’s almost time. Peanuts might present the same problem and that is: they go “stale” if not used PDQ! What do you think? Also have a great recipe for pecans…sweet!
