So far I’ve given you three fantastic hamburger bun ideas using Rhodes rolls. That means all of the hard work is done for you, all you have to do is shape them! You can try my Quick & Easy Cheater Hamburger Buns, Whole Wheat Kaiser Hamburger Buns, or these Easy Poppyseed Kaiser Hamburger Buns! All of which are great easy alternatives to those nearly-cardboard-like store bought buns. I showed you before how to make a kaiser hamburger bun, but how about a few more photos?
The beauty in using Rhodes rolls is you can use the white rolls or the wheat, whichever you prefer! Only having tasted the cracked wheat when I made the other hamburger buns, I think I’m a convert. Seriously they were delicious. With that said, the white rolls are also quite delicious. So take your pick!
All you have to do is thaw your rolls, but make sure they are still cold. Don’t thaw them too much. Depending on the size of rolls you want, you will either want to use one Texas roll, or combine 2-4 regular sized rolls. Combine rolls and roll into a 12-inch rope. Tie each rope into an overhand knot. Bring one end of the dough over the top and tuck down into the middle. Bring the other end of the dough through the center, going the opposite way. After your first roll you’ll get the hang of these. They are so easy to make. A few twists and you’ve got a kaiser hamburger bun. I love it!
Brush your rolls with an egg wash and sprinkle liberally with poppy seeds. Place on a large sprayed baking sheet or Silpat lined. Bake at 350°F 10-15 minutes (longer if you use more rolls). Once your rolls have cooled, slice them in half with a bread knife and you’re ready to assemble your favorite burger.
