Tried and Tasty Television *DEBUT*

television-debutI’ve been meaning to write this post for a couple of months.. but the holidays hit and time slipped away from me. So here we are! I want to document this very exciting opportunity for Tried and Tasty so I’ll start from the beginning. I don’t get a lot of emails I would say, but I get my fair share. Of those that I receive the majority of them are SPAM. I HATE spam email. Like despise it almost more than anything. Don’t people have anything better to do with their time? So when I got the email from the ‘booker for KUTV 2 News Morning Show’ in late October, you can imagine my hesitance at first. Excitement  of course. Hesitance yes. Did I really receive an email asking ME to be on the morning news? Sure did! It took a moment for things to sink in and a couple of emails back and forth until I realized that I in fact was going to be on the news!

After about a month of correspondence my date was set for Tuesday November 19th. Bright and early with TWO segments. One around 6:20 am and the next around 7:15 am. Holy moly! I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m a morning person, but for some things I will wake up early. 1) Heading anywhere on vacation and 2) an opportunity to be on the NEWS!  I prepped as best I could without really knowing what to expect. The closest thing I’d ever done to anything remotely close to a “public appearance” was when I got to be a presenter at the Deseret News Home Show last fall. That was awesome!

I woke up BRIGHT and early before it seemed like anyone on earth was alive. Ok. I’m being dramatic. I told you. I’m not a morning person. I did get up with what I thought was ‘plenty’ of time.. but as you all know, whenever there is anything exciting in the schedule it seems time slips past you faster than you can get a grip on it. So what started as a leisurely morning ended with stress and anxiety that I wouldn’t make it on time. Good thing I wasn’t driving, I can assure you I would have been ticketed for speeding. Then I would have missed my chance. I would have been devastated. It would have been terrible. But none of that happened so we’re good!

Tried and Tasty Television Debut // Tried and Tasty I got there with a little bit of time to set up, relax a bit and some time for pictures (gotta document this AMAZING experience right?). Because the show was airing near Thanksgiving I decided to share a fun seasonal dessert idea. Pumpkin Mousse Tortilla Cups. My first segment was with Ron Bird. I showed him how to prep the tortilla. It was a quick segment, so we weren’t able to get too far, but I was able to wrap up everything nicely in the second segment.

Tried and Tasty Television Debut // Tried and TastyIt’s still hard for me to believe that this really happened. What an awesome experience and wonderful opportunity. A great way to get the word out about my passion here at Tried and Tasty. When I started blogging it was just a way to keep my recipes all in one place basically. Then I started sharing my site with close friends and family (then Vonappetite). One thing led to another and Tried and Tasty was born. Lucky for me, I married a web designer. A few years ago I unveiled the newest version of what has become one of my very favorite hobbies. When asked what my end goal is, I honestly don’t know. I’m open to wherever the road leads me.

Tried and Tasty Television Debut // Tried and TastyI was so grateful that I was able to have these two with me. This was a MAJOR sacrifice for my husband. I can’t even begin to describe how much of a morning person he’s NOT. I didn’t think he would want to come. Let me rephrase that, I didn’t think he was going to be able to come because of the time we needed to leave our house. I was pleasantly surprised when he made the decision to be with me. It was so nice having him there to help calm my nerves. It was also nice having him chauffeur me. Like I said, if I had driven myself I most assuredly would have gotten pulled over. I was a frantic mess! Heaven knows we didn’t want Bryan driving.. HA. Inside joke. He’s a great driver ;) You may recognize Bryan from our Man Vs. Book collaboration. Or you may not recognize him under that killer mane. Next to my husband of course, he’s my best friend. I was SO excited when he said he wanted to come with me. It only made sense to have him there.

Tried and Tasty Television Debut // Tried and TastyMy phone was BLOWING up! So many friends and family sent sweet text messages and overwhelmed me with love ALL over my social media: Instagram & Facebook. I even got emails too. It was amazing the outpouring of support I got from so many. My heart was so full. It was nice having a break between the two segments to be able to relax a bit before I was on again. It was just enough time for the nerves to subside just a bit.

Tried and Tasty Television Debut // Tried and TastyMy second segment was with Mary Nickles. I was able to wrap up the recipe showing how to prepare the filling, how to pipe the filling, and how to decorate the tortilla cups. Time flew by quickly so I was amazed that I was able to get it all in. The segments were only a couple of minutes each. That’s hardly any time at all, so you’ve got to be on your A game. Mary sure is a sweetheart. She made me feel really comfortable. She even liked my dessert!

Tried and Tasty Television Debut // Tried and TastyAfter everything was all said and done in a flash, it was over. I couldn’t believe after all of the anticipation I had actually done it. It was over. I was getting messages from friends and family that had SEEN me. From their homes. On t.v. Isn’t that wild? Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine this would ever happen. My little sister works in the building next door to the station so afterwards we met up for a quick breakfast. Isn’t she beautiful?

Tried and Tasty Television Debut // Tried and TastyYou couldn’t wipe the smile off my face if you tried. I was so pleased with how everything went and also relieved that it was over. What a fun morning. So much accomplished all before 7:45 a.m. Nuts to think about. In my everyday world at that time I’m just about ready to grab my lunchbox and head to work. On this day I’d already been up for three hours! Sure do love my supportive husband for always being there for me when I need him. In fact, if it weren’t for him, there wouldn’t even BE a Tried and Tasty. I’m so grateful to all that he does for me.
