Apple Crunch Cake

I’ve had a hankering for a cobbler ever since summer. Now that it’s winter, I figured what better time than now ;) Actually, I really have been wanting a cobbler out of a dutch oven. Mmm. That sounds tasty right about now. Since it’s not summer, and I don’t know how to operate a dutch oven, I went for the next best thing. This recipe! Oh man, oh man. You seriously gotta sit down while you are eating this. It is THAT good people. We ate it with ice cream the first go around – but by the time I could take a picture we were out :( Bummer. Just picture it. Cool melty vanilla ice cream goodness in a warm bed of apple crunch cake. So delish.

24.5 oz. jar of apple pie filling
1/2 c. water
1 package french vanilla cake mix
1 stick (1/2 c.) butter, cut into 16 pieces
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350. Layer ingredients in a 9×13 dish, in order starting with the apples. Bake for about 40 minutes. Serve warm or cold, with or without ice cream.

[My 2 Cents]
Since the apple pie filling is so thick you need to add a little water to thin it out. I actually didn’t use the entire box of cake mix. I used a little over half – but when I made it I didn’t add the water either. Basically, you will need enough cake mix to generously cover the apples! Enjoy!
