Rich Chocolate Toffee Bars

These are one of my FAVORITE Christmas bars! They are just what the name calls them: RICH!!! I only make them once a year, and look forward to them every time I do.

2 1/3 c. all-purpose flour
2/3 c. packed light brown sugar
3/4 c. butter or margarine, cold
1 egg, slightly beaten
2 c. (12 oz pkg) semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
1 c. coarsely chopped nuts
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 3/4 c. (10 oz.) SKOR English Toffee Bits, divided

Preheat oven to 350. Grease 9×13 in. baking pan. Stir together flour and brown sugar in large bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender (very important not to use softened or melted butter) until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add egg; mix well. Stir in 1 1/2 c. chocolate chips and 1 c. nuts. Reserve 1 1/2 c. mixture. Press remaining crumb mixture onto bottom of prepared pan. Bake 10 minutes. Pour sweetened condensed milk evenly over hot crust. Top with 1 1/2 c. toffee bits. Sprinkle reserved crumb mixture and remaining 1/2 c. chips over top. Bake 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Sprinkle with remaining 1/2 c. toffee bits. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars.

[My 2 Cents]
What I’ve found is it’s best to make the bars one day and then cut them the next. That way you assure that they are completely cooled and also they are much easier to cut once they’ve set for a while.
